Central Indiana parents invest time, treasure in youth sport opportunities for kids

Thursday, May 31, 2018

As summer gets underway each year, thousands of families across the nation hit the road in support of a child’s dream of playing the sport they love. Parents sacrifice their time, money, and energy watching their child play the sport they love.

The IUPUI Sports Innovation Institute went in search of how large of a commitment parents in central Indiana made for their child to participate in sport. A panel of 500 respondents discussed youth sports participation in the Indy Sports Poll in the summer of 2017.

Seventy (70) percent of respondents with children under the age of 18 actively participate in organized sports activities. Parents make a large commitment to their children by spending an average of $3,231 annually on their child’s youth sports activities.

Check out the infographic below for a breakdown of how parents are spending their time and money on their child’s youth sport activities.
